Why AEROplainte?

The AÉROplaint application was designed to allow you to send aircraft noise complaints to Aéroports de Montréal (YUL) from your email account.

When using the application, remember the following points:
AÉROplainte is not associated with Aéroports de Montréal (YUL) and is totally independent of it.
In the app settings, a checkbox allows you to send a copy of your complaints to our team so that we can compile data and analyze the results.

Whenever a plane flies overhead, morning or evening, and the noise bothers you, file a complaint. It takes 3 seconds to do.
You can file many complaints. You don’t have to be embarrassed to do so: your complaints allow you to measure the issue of noise.

About Aircraft Noise Complaints

NOISE COMPLAINTS:

When flights depart from Montreal Airport (YUL) to the north, northeast, airport rules require them to fly in a straight line until they reach 3000 feet above sea level. the sea, the altitude at which they are authorized to turn. Jet, propeller and jet aircraft weighing less than 45,000 kg must turn earlier to allow larger aircraft to climb into the flight path. The map on the left shows what a typical morning looks like when planes fly overhead as they depart from Montreal airport.

 

More than 275,000 Montrealers live directly below these trajectories, in the boroughs of St-Laurent, Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Villeray-St-Michel-Parc-Extension and Anjou. When all exposed areas are included, including Outremont, Rosemont-Petit-Patrie and Montreal North, 635,030 Montrealers are exposed to aircraft noise. A large number of Laval residents are also affected.

Aéroports de Montréal is obligated to monitor and investigate aircraft noise complaints. These complaints are an indicator used by the airport to manage the noise environment surrounding the airport.

Residents of the Montreal area file between 543 and 718 complaints a year. Does this number reflect the reality on the ground? No! The problem is that not everyone who is bothered by noise knows where and how to file a complaint with Aéroports de Montréal.

The AÉROplainte application allows all residents affected by aircraft noise to file their complaint in 3 seconds using their smartphone, at any time, even from their bed.

THE SITUATION WILL GET EVEN WORSE: In 2017 a total of 17.3 million passengers passed through Montreal Airport (YUL). With the currently planned $2 billion expansion, the airport will increase its capacity to 35 million passengers. A 102% increase in passenger traffic.

Current passenger traffic corresponds to 234,840 planes taking off and landing from Montreal airport in 2017, an average of 643 flights per day.

At the planned capacity of 35 million passengers, a total of 380,435 aircraft will land and depart from the Montreal airport each year, an average of 1,024 flights per day. This represents an estimated 62% increase in air traffic over Montreal.

This decision was made without proper environmental and social impact analysis or public consultation.
